Yes, JYRF program encourages interdisciplinary research. We welcome outstanding early career researchers from all areas of natural sciences and engineering.
The fellows are expected to collaborate with existing JAMSTEC departments and define their own research themes freely.

Department assignments for successful fellows will be determined by the selection committee based on each fellow’s preferences and research plan.

After the closing date, submitted documents will be reviewed in an initial screening. Applicants who pass the document screening will be invited to an interview. The interview process consists of two parts: a research presentation at an open seminar attended by JAMSTEC researchers, followed by an interview with the selection committee.
